Why does the market need donations?

The Woodstock Farmers Market survives on a fairly small budget which is funded primarily by these three sources: vendor fees, business sponsors, and individual donors. The dollars that come in go to keep the market thriving and hopping with these activities, programs, and events in and around the market:

  • Free kids activities each week at our kid’s booth. We also host a special kid-focused event (Kids Day!) in August with face-painting, games, prizes and animals, and our Halloween Carnival at the end of October with trick-or-treating and costume parades.
  • Programs and partnerships that address food scarcity and access. Each year the market must raise thousands of dollars to participate in Double Up Food Bucks, our SNAP matching program. We also accept WIC and are participating in OHSU’s Food Rx Program. Lastly, we love working with local non-profit Neighborhood Gleaners who collect and redistribute unsold produce to low-income seniors.
  • Our community outreach program has us participating and supporting the Woodstock Neighborhood Association (WNA) and Woodstock Community Business Association (WCBA), hosting a weekly Community Booth at the market and participating and promoting Woodstock Gives Back and the neighborhood cleanup.
  • We pay our musicians! Each week we are able to attract top local talent to play at the market.
  • We cannot have a well-run market without paid staff members. These paid staff work on the market year-round but are especially hard-working during the market season.
  • Finally, there is general upkeep: replacing or updating canopies, keeping supplies and materials in stock, and all the little things that make the behind-the-scenes work come together. Not to mention, the real engine of the market: iced-tea, lemonade and ice for our dedicated group of volunteers who show up on Sundays to set up, staff the info booth, help with the kids activities, assist the vendors and then take down the market at the end of the day. You, too, can volunteer and be a part of this amazing group!
